DEALING WITH ICBC

You are required to cooperate with ICBC in its investigation of your claim, but this does not mean that you are necessarily required to meet with and be interviewed by an ICBC adjuster. You are entitled to meet and consult with a lawyer at any time.

Be prepared. Be informed.

Talk to one of lawyers before you call Dial A Claim and before you meet with an ICBC representative. Getting some preliminary legal advice is free, privileged and critical to making an informed decision about your rights.

ICBC adjusters are trained insurance professionals. From the minute you first interact with an insurance company, be it ICBC or any other, your claim is “adjusted” by assessing fault for the accident and/or the nature and extent of your injuries and loss. In most cases in British Columbia, ICBC will be acting for all motorists involved in the collision.

Caution should be exercised before you sign any ICBC medical or employment authorizations. These authorizations often allow ICBC to obtain your complete medical and work history as opposed to only that information which is relevant to your claim.
